Just 'invented' this chess variation at work today. I'm sure others have come up with it before me, but we are enjoying it so far.
Probability Chess introduces a new piece to the game called the 'Probability Pawn' or as Jeff better named it, the 'Jester'. There is one Jester for the board. The Jester indicates the position you would like to move a piece to. Your opponent, however, gets to pick which of your eligible pieces fulfills the position. All moves are made using the Jester.
Here's how the first few moves of a Jester game would go.
1) White places the Jester in h3. Play passes to black.
2) Black picks which piece fulfills the Jester move. In this case there are two legal moves. Either Ph3 or Nh3. For this example, Black chooses Nh3, replacing the Jester piece with the Knight, and removing the Jester from the board.
3) Black places the Jester in their desired position. Play passes to white.
The game continues in this fashion until check mate is achieved.
If you give this variety of chess a try. Leave some feedback about how it went.
